Launching of a new API "Early Treatment for a Healthy Life"

To enhance the public awareness of HIV/AIDS and tie in with the World AIDS Day on December 1, the Centre launched a new set of TV and radio Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs) today.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) effectively suppresses HIV and markedly reduces HIV-related morbidity, the life expectancy of people with HIV is nearly the same with people without HIV. Evidence has shown that people with HIV who achieve sustained viral suppression to an undetectable level by antiretroviral drugs have no chance of passing on the virus through sex. Similar to other chronic diseases, with regular follow up and adherence to ART regimen, people with HIV can live a healthy and productive life. The storyline of the APIs is about HIV infection, as an obstacle along life path, may tell one to stop. One choose to have early HIV treatment with antiretroviral therapy can get his life back on track.
