Radio programme hosts speak on AIDS in government publicity campaign

Radio programme hosts speak on AIDS in government publicity campaign A series of TV APIs (Television Announcements in the Public Interest) featuring five famous radio programme hosts giving messages on AIDS were launched to the public at a premiere today (Dec 1).

Ms Pamela Pak and Mr Paul Tse from Metro Broadcast, Mr Hung Chiu-fung from RTHK, Ms Li Pik-sum and Mr Gary Ngan from Commercial Radio had accepted the appointment by the Committee on Education and Publicity on AIDS (CEPAIDS) earlier this year as AIDS Awareness Ambassadors and appeared in the TV APIs to deliver their personal messages on AIDS.

Speaking at today's ceremony, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Publicity on AIDS, Ms Carlye Tsui said, "TV APIs that feature public figures or celebrities are the most effective and are best remembered by the audience. CEPAIDS had, earlier this year, commissioned the Chinese University of Hong Kong to conduct a survey to gauge the public's responses to the AIDS TV APIs shown in he past. The survey revealed that those TV APIs which feature public figures or AIDS patients giving messages are well liked and best remembered.

"We believe the current series of TV APIs featuring the five AIDS Awareness Ambassadors will be equally popular, and the messages told will be able to get through to their intended groups of target audience.

"Tailored messages are designed in the APIs by individual Ambassadors. With women becoming increasingly vulnerable to HIV virus through their promiscuous spouses, Ms Pamela Pak addresses her female audience on the importance of safe sex. Mr Hung Chiu-fung alerts his youngster fans on the fair chance of catching AIDS which does not spare the lives of non-homosexuals. Mr Gary Ngan appeals to those practising risk behaviour while Ms Li Pik-sum and Mr Paul Tse call for concern for people living with HIV/AIDS."

The function incorporated also a postcards signing ceremony where the admirers of the famous radio programme hosts were seen lining up for World AIDS Day postcards to be autographed by the AIDS Awareness Ambassadors. The postcards, specifically produced for the function, carry the messages of the ambassadors as well as their caricatures.

The TV APIs will be broadcast in all TV and radio stations together with their corresponding radio APIs immediately after today's official launching.
