AIDS Trust Fund invites applications for project grants
The AIDS Trust Fund is inviting applications for grants for research or promotion projects which would contribute to greater public understanding on AIDS or to the well-being of HIV/AIDS patients and their families.
The Fund, set up in April 1993, aims to provide assistance to HIV-infected haemophiliacs and to strengthen medical and support services and public education on AIDS.
Since its establishment, it has disbursed more than $107 million for 227 projects which include the establishment of the Red Ribbon Centre serving as an AIDS education, research and resource centre; a hospice service for the HIV/AIDS patients; an activity centre for the people living with HIV/AIDS; and the acquisition of eye implants for several AIDS patients.
To support the 1997 World AIDS Day which falls on December 1, the AIDS Trust Fund has either fully or partially sponsored the following projects:
- a sex education TV series: "Sex Education in Hong Kong and Asia";
- a series of children and AIDS programmes, including a Fair Day, drawing competition, exhibition and publishing on children journals;
- the "Red Ribbon Campaign" which distributes "red ribbon" packs to the public at retail stores, social services agencies, supermarkets, banks, MTR stations, etc.;
- a contest to give awards for media coverage on HIV/AIDS; and
- a candlelit vigil.
There are four rounds of applications each year. The deadlines for the next two rounds are the end of February and May, 1998.
