Time Magazine "Man of the Year"
AIDS Researcher Dr. David Da-I Ho visits Hong Kong

The world-famous AIDS researcher, Dr. Da-I HO, is visiting Hong Kong from December 8 to 13,1997 as the distinguished visiting scholar of the Hong Kong Advisory Council on AIDS, Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong and Macau, and United College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Ho was born in Taiwan. he moved to the United States to join his father at the age of 13. After graduating from the California Institute of Technology in 1974 with a B.S. degree summa cum laude in physics, he changed his career goal to medical research. He was offered a scholarship from Harvard Medical School, where he obtained his M.D. degree in 1978.

As a forefront physician and an active research scientist throughout his professional career, Dr. Ho has served in various capacities at famous institutes such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCLA School of Medicine, and New York University School of Medicine. Since 1990, Dr. Ho has served as the Director of Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center in New York, currently the largest private HIV/AIDS research center in the world.

Dr. Ho is the pioneer of viral dynamics. His theory of continuous viral replication since early infection forms the cornerstone of modern research in HIV, and his novel use of a "cocktail" of protease inhibitors and other antiviral drugs in the early stage of infection has shown ofremarkable promise in controlling the AIDS virus. Dr. Ho was named Man of the Year in 1996 by TIME Magazine.

During his stay in Hong Kong, Dr. Ho will give two lectures and a Lions Club luncheon talk. Details of the activities are as follows

Title: "New Developments in AIDS Care" (Open to all medical practitioners)
