For surveillance purpose, regular behavioural surveys are conducted in selected target populations in Hong Kong. They included drug users (attending Drug Rehabilitation Centres and methadone clinics), DH Social Hygiene Service clients, DH AIDS Counselling and Testing Service clients, Men who have sex with Men (MSM) during HIV testing in NGOs etc.

Supplementary behavioural surveys are also administered in the MSM and female sex workers communities in the last few years. They include the HIV Prevalence and Risk Behavioural survey of Men who have sex with men in Hong Kong (PRiSM) conducted in 2006, 2008 and 2011; the Community Based Risk Behavioural and Seroprevalence Survey for Female Sex Workers in Hong Kong (CRiSP) carried out in 2006 and 2009; and the HIV and AIDS Response Indicators Survey (HARiS) for Men who have Sex with Men, Male-to-female transgender, Female Sex Worker, Male Clients of Female Sex Worker, and Injecting Drug User in 2013 to 2016.
